Editor's Note: Sometimes we come across a piece of our heritage which provides a glimpse into our glorious past. One such heirloom is this dazzling and transcendental poem of the Great Poet of the East, Allama Iqbal. I hope Maryam Mehboob, our PTT Member, would not mind if we share it with other Pakistanis and our wider global audience. This heirloom was given to her by her mother, it belonged to her grandfather. When, we think of people like him, it makes our heart well up with pride. And our hope springs eternal for the future of our nation. Our beloved Pakistan. A nation whose forefathers had such culture and wisdom. The poignancy and imagery of these stanzas are immersed with spirituality and fragrance. And above all these verses were left for future generations to savor and enjoy. Thank you Maryam for sharing. It made our day! We hope it will yours...

INVOCATION TO THE PERFECT MAN


Appear, O rider of Destiny!

Appear, O light of the dark realm of change!

Illumine the scene of existence,

Dwell in the blackness of our eyes!

Silence the noise of the nations,

Imparadise our ears with thy music!

Arise and tune the harp of brotherhood,

Give us back the cup of the wine of love!

Bring once more days of peace to the world,

Give a message of peace to them that seek battle!

Mankind are cornfield and thou the Harvest,

Thou art the goal of Life’s Caravan.

The leaves are scattered by Autumn’s fury.

Oh, do thou pass over our gardens as the Spring!

Receive from our downcast brows

The homage of little children and of young men and old!

It is to thee that we owe our dignity,

And silently undergo the pains of life.

The best poem I have read so far on this issue.I personally feel that we PAKISTANI'S lack INSANIAT.We have become a selfish nation against the vision of IQBAL & QUIDE.We are just interested in what PAKISTAN has given to us not realizing what we have done for our homeland.
